Hosted by legendary comedian and “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, the series explores our obsession with all things automotive. From classic cars to supercars and everything in-between, Jay is hitting the road to discover the most exciting, weird and wonderful vehicles ever made and meet the passionate people behind their wheels. Each one-hour themed episode features a mix of stunts, challenges, reviews, and celebrity interviews that showcases the colorful history of the automobile. Whether he’s exploring the story of an iconic brand, road-testing the newest super car, or investigating the latest automotive innovations, there is no wheel Jay won’t get behind to tell the story of our love affair with the car.
About Jay Leno: Acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, much-in-demand corporate speaker, lovable TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist…it’s no wonder that Jay Leno is widely characterized as “the hardest working man in show business.”

Adjusting for inflation, this car would have cost the modern equivalent of $243,000 in 1916.

The inflation calculator tells me this car sold for the equivalent of $243,000 today. So yeah, definitely not your average working man's vehicle. But a beautiful piece of history.

Unpowered steering, you never turn the steering wheel unless you were moving. That relieved the "Armstrong Steering" probems. Not too many people remember driving cars or trucks without power steering. I had a 35' Owens that had hydraulic steering, beautiful boat that had the air intakes like on your car. I lived in it for 8 years until I got married and had my first Son, and yes, you guessed it - the wife didn't want a child on a boat! So, I sold it for a grand down payment on a farm house, Owen boats were in high demand in the 80's, especially with the twin Packard engines and teak wood decks. I did keep all the marine and shortwave radios, had them set up in my Amateur Radio Shack becase they were the cream of the crop of radios. A National HRO-5 with all coil sets, and a Gonset Marine crystal controlled transceiver with 100w out.. So,as you collect antique cars, I collect antique tube radios. Remember, real radios glow in the dark! Fascinating series of your car collection! Love it!

Jay Leno seems to have no idea how great these videos are and it's not despite the lack of crew it's because of the lack of crew got more complex the production values are bless you can see in the details the car in the Les interactions you get with J that seems like

Yes , and where some would notice no doors to get out of for the driver and front passenger , in contrast to others who would simply be prepared at first glance to jump out noticing the no roof style choice of the as seen “California suicide” model ?!

It looks like there is a serpentine belt driving the fan on the engine. Was that an upgrade or did they actually have serpentine belts back in 1916?

Bending wood for cars would be like bending it for grand piano frames: much steam and heat, massive mold-and clamp pressure, and layers of wood glued together. Long process to bend, set, dry.

Just finished watching: Hybrid From 1916: The Owen Magnetic. It is a 1916 car day I guess. Personally, I like these intimate stories about the cars in Jay's collection. The innovation of the Own Magnetic really shows when looking at this more conventional car. This is just a work of art flowing down the road.

Damn, I'm decently well-versed in early automobiles and I had HEARD this name before, but I've never actually seen one of them - and oh my god they look so cool!! This is easily one of the coolest and best looking cars from the 1910s. A quick Google image search shows pretty much every body style offered was a winner, too. Great video as always, Jay!

Jay, want to see (and drive) the sole surviving 1912 Crane Model 3 Touring? Visit the Seal Cove Auto Museum in Maine, see the Simplex-Crane Model 5 on display there, and then the crew will pull the Crane out for you, for a ride. I have always loved the Melbourne Brindle paintings of your Crane-Simplex from when he owned it. Our friends at the Owls Head Transportation Museum are featuring his work, you can take a virtual tour on their website.

Jay is so adorable the way he tries to play-down the fact that he has mansions full of servants. Like he does all the chores and cooks all the viddles himself. Nice of him not to rub it in our faces. Don't worry Jay, we would never begrudge you enjoying your hard won wealth. We would all do the same. If I won the Powerball or had AI servant robots like Westworld, I would never fold another shirt or clean a dirty plate again. Damn straight. Jeeves!

Thanks for doing this car Jay...my father had one of these, convertible, red with a white interior. My earliest memory is riding in the back with the top down, dad behind the wheel and my then 9-10 year old older sister riding shotgun, her waist long hair blowing around in the breeze. Dad and Sue are gone now, but the happy memory remains...

Say Simplex to me at the time of the Great War, the immidiate thing that comes to mind is the little Rail cars, both open and armoured that did service on narrow gauge lines. Post war they supplied a lot of them for quarries and big building sites.
