Hey Jay, thanks, as always, for bringing us into your garage and sharing your treasures with us! By the way, your Bentley is dripping something in the front, I caught it at 23:18 and again at 23:47. Whatever it is, I'm sure there is plenty of it so you won't get stranded without fluid, but you may want to put the car up on the lift again and look under the front and catch those drips.

Beautiful looking car Jay, I would love to be able to just sit in the back on those comfortable-looking seats and have someone else drive. But I do have a question, what is that rattling sound I hear when you're driving?

I remember on lake st. where they had them riots in mpls., a car lot in the early 8o's had about 15 Bently's for 3 to 4 hundred bucks a piece . I would sit in the back seats because they were so cool. I was tempted to buy one just for the looks because they were so cool. I had no idea they were so rare. One day they were just gone, lot shut down. Wow, what a rare car and guy had that many cheap.

Having the experience driving a 52 Rolls, the carryover of styling is remarkable. The back seating area of the 31 Bentley is almost completely echoed in the Rolls product 20 years later - still. Having the gear shifter in between the seat and the door is also quite. . .memorable. My friend that owns the 52 Rolls and I used to joke about it having the finest in 1920s braking technology available, and it was easy to identify the manual linkages also present on the Bentley. When Rolls absorbed Bentley, it is quite obvious that they found quite a bit of the Bentley engineering, to be, as they say. . ."adequate". An observation I've heard is that British car developments went on hiatus during the War years, and the evidence for that is apparent on what was still present some 20 years after Bentley designed them - as I mentioned, Rolls was still relying on them.

When Jay goes under the car on the lifts, what is that plug hanging down near the battery box he almost runs into twice? You see it at 21:59. I thought battery disconnect, but why would you have that in such a hard to get to spot each time you wanted to use it?

Absolutely fascinating...the Brits did so well developing automobiles, trains and airplanes. Great mechanical engineers and they designed for longevity, power and style 👏🏻👏🏻. That engine is amazing and I wonder if any other automobile company designed/ manufactured a similar power plant ? Another great restoration and well presented...only thing missing was a lady in sequins and ostrich plumes in the back seat.

No one made an engine quite like this one but there were other luxury cars of performance and merit. Pierce Arrow made a V12 model that set a speed record by averaging 117 MPH for 24 hours on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1932. To put this in perspective at the time Rolls Royce warned their customers not to run their car at full throttle for more than 5 minutes or they would blow it up. Rolls had a top speed of 85. Pierce Arrow was not considered a sporty or fast car but on the open road they were really something.

The fact that any car, certainly such a large and luxurious road car could hit 100mph, let alone 125 in the 1930's was incredible. These early Bentley are wonderful pieces of automotive engineering, and I love the way nothing is taken to chance, and all so overbuilt so that nothing will break. The fact that over three quarters of the 8 lites originally built still survive, almost a century later, is a testament to their quality.

Dear Jay, I’m your age, taught art at Notre Dame University, owned a multi state Architectural Design/Build firm and I have dyslexia. And I must tell you that your vast knowledge of automobiles, their histories, the histories of their inventors, even the multitude of suppliers and specialists you have used to assist in the restoration of your cars is amazing! My memory is beginning to fail all to quickly. But even on the COVID shows you are doing unassisted, your great! Just thought you should know! You would have been great at what ever you applied yourself to! It’s our blessing that it was cars and of course comedy. Thanks so much! I so love your passion and your sharing it with us. PS. How’s the guys doing! Hope they will be back soon.

I have to laugh at the BMW's along side this behemoth. Beemer's are so overpriced and crappy according to Scotty Kilmer and dollar for dollar the Bentley is a far better value. I mean, nothing compares to this 1931 but Beemer crazies think they're the bees' knees and when one of these pulls up, they run and hide.

motor, and litre. Thats so disgustingly inaccurate. In America the "engine" runs on a supplied fuel source. A motor would suggest this is an e/v, turd-like tesla. Litre is a Euro-measure element. How many cubic inches is that engine Jay? Give it the same scale understood by America, as the wheelbase figure.......which is in inches.......
