ABOUT JAY LENO'S GARAGE ON CNBC
Hosted by legendary comedian and “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, the series explores our obsession with all things automotive. From classic cars to supercars and everything in-between, Jay is hitting the road to discover the most exciting, weird and wonderful vehicles ever made and meet the passionate people behind their wheels. Each one-hour themed episode features a mix of stunts, challenges, reviews, and celebrity interviews that showcases the colorful history of the automobile. Whether he’s exploring the story of an iconic brand, road-testing the newest super car, or investigating the latest automotive innovations, there is no wheel Jay won’t get behind to tell the story of our love affair with the car.
About Jay Leno: Acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, much-in-demand corporate speaker, lovable TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist…it’s no wonder that Jay Leno is widely characterized as “the hardest working man in show business.”

I love Leno's genuine passion! And as a Porscher I totally agree with him, including that horse power is not what makes a car a sports car, and the aspired and air cooled 911 where true sports cars.

jay has so many cars, can only drive one at a time. all he did was host a tv show, and while i commend him for keeping a lot of history alive and well kept. he is the reason people are so up tight. all those cars could go to other guys to build and restore and enjoy the cars they want. instead they sit in a convenience store workign bone dry in life, losing their minds, to barely save up. and all jay did was sit in a chair and interview people for a tv show.

Even though I’ve been watching Jay for many years through many venues, this has to be my favourite.......a relaxed Jay Leno casually talking to his eager listeners , it almost feels like he just drove over and stopped by to shoot the breeze with each and every one of us. It’s a far cry from the Tonight Show glitzy song and dance and I feel privileged to be able to share in his passion for all things automotive.

I LOVED MY 1976 280 Z...DESIGN INSIDE AND OUT...BUT THE PORSCHE 911,944,AND SUPRA BLEW THE Z AWAY IN POWER..FRAME DESIGN WAS WIPPY TOO....I KNOW THE Z WAS A COPY OF SOME FERRARI AND JAGUARS OUT THERE....

I legitmately enjoyed watching this. It has actually brought me joy. Real, truthful joy. There are few cars I truly wish to experience more than older Porsches. So much character; so much soul. There's a feeling... and I've missed out on them, and it sucks. Always been a car fan. Never been a Leno fan, but we can't have it all. This particular video really brought some magic to my night after a hard day's work. Thank you for this. It's actually, honestly appreciated.

I'm always amazed at how people think 2700 lbs is "light weight". If I can lift it (even partially), it's "light weight"; elsewise, it's "very light, comparably' or any other way of explaining it in non-absolute terms.

Beautiful car Jay! I recently put a 72S engine with elgin cams into my 71T targa, so now it's in the 190 hp neighborhood. What wheels/tires are you running on that T? I'm worried that the footprint of my 165/80/15s just don't cut it anymore. Would love to share notes with you and your team!

Excellent stuff! Love the older 911s. I’m not a Porsche weenie but I guess I’m close. These cars weigh about 2400lbs that’s one of the reasons they feel so good. Take a look at the Stoddard catalog and get some of the missing plugs for the bottom of the car. Great car, love the upgrades and your enjoyment of the “music” of the engine!

Lovely car. In 1968 my wife and I bought our first Porsche. It was painted in this same Sepia Brown color as Porsche called it. The paint was special order and if memory serves, added $75 to the purchase price. After I retired I bought another nearly new 911. That car was an '88 911 Targa. I was disappointed that the 911 I remembered from the sixties had grown up into what it was, not fun and no "joy" at all. The car was with me for one year only.

Jay, I really like that you had the engine rebuilt with a longer stroke besides the larger bore. With air-cooled engines I've so often heard that its important to keep it on the pipe for sufficient cooling. With your rebuild, even when not necessarily revving, you still have good torque on hand for such things as upward winding mountain roads. And I agree, your 911 is a simple, yet efficient body shape, has good all-around visibility, low yet comfortable driving position, backseats if you need 'em, equal traction to both wheels, precise steering/suspension/shifting/braking. Even an ultra-simple radio. But who needs music when you've got that glorious engine noise??

my uncle had a 72' 911 targa. I think it was 2.4 litre. It was broke down and in a garage since at least 1988. My family sold it in 2016 to someone sight unseen based on pics for 29k. It was not in good shape and needed lots of work, but I wish we kept it and resurrected it ourselves. It looked just like this.

Sad that today you do not find reasonable priced ones. I own an early 944, which is a great car and gives you similar feelings. But 10 years ago the same amount was almost enough to get you a 911.

Nothing as nice as a well executed shift. Last time I heard that I was driving Uber/Lyft in my 2006 Ram 2500 Diesel. The ladies in the back noticed I was rowing through the gears after seeing my hand move. Suddenly it the coolest thing. An Uber driver in Wyoming with a pickup and a manual transmission.

back in the days , all race Porsche as 550 , 904 , 906 and many more had the key or button to start on the right side , on 911 the key to start is on the left side only due the shape of the dash and no room on the right side , than they keep till today, please stop with this horrible story just to keep the 911 a bit far away from beetles
