Beautiful car Jay! I recently put a 72S engine with elgin cams into my 71T targa, so now it's in the 190 hp neighborhood. What wheels/tires are you running on that T? I'm worried that the footprint of my 165/80/15s just don't cut it anymore. Would love to share notes with you and your team!

Excellent stuff! Love the older 911s. I’m not a Porsche weenie but I guess I’m close. These cars weigh about 2400lbs that’s one of the reasons they feel so good. Take a look at the Stoddard catalog and get some of the missing plugs for the bottom of the car. Great car, love the upgrades and your enjoyment of the “music” of the engine!

Lovely car. In 1968 my wife and I bought our first Porsche. It was painted in this same Sepia Brown color as Porsche called it. The paint was special order and if memory serves, added $75 to the purchase price. After I retired I bought another nearly new 911. That car was an '88 911 Targa. I was disappointed that the 911 I remembered from the sixties had grown up into what it was, not fun and no "joy" at all. The car was with me for one year only.

What I love about 911’s is the variations of colors and all of them look beautiful. I learned how to drive on a VW beetles in South America Brazil and boy was that fun. The beetle we had was a dual carburetor 1.6L and my dream is a Porsche like this

Jay, I really like that you had the engine rebuilt with a longer stroke besides the larger bore. With air-cooled engines I've so often heard that its important to keep it on the pipe for sufficient cooling. With your rebuild, even when not necessarily revving, you still have good torque on hand for such things as upward winding mountain roads. And I agree, your 911 is a simple, yet efficient body shape, has good all-around visibility, low yet comfortable driving position, backseats if you need 'em, equal traction to both wheels, precise steering/suspension/shifting/braking. Even an ultra-simple radio. But who needs music when you've got that glorious engine noise??

my uncle had a 72' 911 targa. I think it was 2.4 litre. It was broke down and in a garage since at least 1988. My family sold it in 2016 to someone sight unseen based on pics for 29k. It was not in good shape and needed lots of work, but I wish we kept it and resurrected it ourselves. It looked just like this.

Sad that today you do not find reasonable priced ones. I own an early 944, which is a great car and gives you similar feelings. But 10 years ago the same amount was almost enough to get you a 911.

What is the name of that place out of Ohio that supplies Porsche parts? Sounds like he says "Starter" but I am not sure. Never mind... found it. Stoddard. www.stoddard.com/
Nothing as nice as a well executed shift. Last time I heard that I was driving Uber/Lyft in my 2006 Ram 2500 Diesel. The ladies in the back noticed I was rowing through the gears after seeing my hand move. Suddenly it the coolest thing. An Uber driver in Wyoming with a pickup and a manual transmission.

back in the days , all race Porsche as 550 , 904 , 906 and many more had the key or button to start on the right side , on 911 the key to start is on the left side only due the shape of the dash and no room on the right side , than they keep till today, please stop with this horrible story just to keep the 911 a bit far away from beetles

This has to be one of my favorite reviews done by Jay . So pleasant and pleasing how he went over the car's compleat condition as purchased and all the really cool finishing touches. Wow ! I am amazed at its' original hp rating. Must have been pretty docile. And now. 225 hp ! Perfect. What a great sound it makes ! A real drivers car. All our cars have been manuals since I learned how to use a stick on Datsun rental back in 1982. I remember being intimidated over whether or not I could smoothly handle a stick on a new car. Then I test drove a new 1982 Toyota Corolla SR5. I just loved that car and the way it drove ! Our latest a 2017 Accord 6 speed is different. our 1994 Civic 1.5 liter 5 speed shifts silky smooth. But the '17 Accord is quite notchy. I kept hoping that it would get smoother, but it hasn't. Somehow it does not bother me. I think of it as insisting on more refined and exacting shifting. We have the powerful six and it just strikes us as elegant. I causes us to drive more precisely and without anxiety. I think I can count on two hands how many times we have used heavy throttle. Maybe because it is a coupe. Most everything has four doors.

Nothing against Jay or Seinfeld but I'll never understand why entertainers make the money they do and can have a net worth of $400 or $950 million. It's actually disgusting given what they do. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining or hurting as I'm approaching near a $2 million net worth myself but that was working in IT for nearly 30 years and with a rental property with all the typical tenant headaches. Not to mention the realty of $2 million isn't what it once was either. I certainly don't feel rich. First responders, teachers and medical staff should be multimillionaires, not entertainers of course we are the idiots that help them get there. I'm actually enjoying the impact to the entertainment industry as they mostly crank out crap these days.
