I live in Canada and owned two Citroen DS's. I also spent time in Paris. You are bang-on correct Jay. The energy of that incredible place, where "BEAUTY" governs all, has been imparted to their elegant, beauty-filled motor-cars. "Diesse" ("DS") is French for "Goddess". ...Barry

Nice to see M. Lenos affection to french cars - especially the Citroens. I have now been a Citroen driver since april 1975 and enjoyed every single kilometer. Citroens might be a little different, but there is always a very good reason for it. Just amazing and cleverly built cars. In 1935-36 M. F.Lecot drove his Citroen Traction Avant not less than 400 000 kilometers in just one year - an average of 1100 kilometers a day! No highways, just normal roads!

Thanks from France, Jay, for this video. Just to set the record straight about the history of this car : the first model, the 4-cylinder 7 HP, was introduced in March 1934 under André Citroën management. At the Paris motor show in October 1934, Citroën displayed a V-8 version, the 22 HP, more or less a prototype. Citroën went into receivership in December 1934, Michelin took over, André Citroën had to make way for a Michelin-appointed manager (he passed away in July 1935). Michelin killed off the 22 HP and concentrated on improving the reliability of the mass-market 7 and 11 HP 4-cylinder models. After all the initial bugs were fixed the 4-cylinders enjoyed market success and Michelin decided to add an upmarket version, the 6-cylinder 15 HP, in June 1938. About 48,000 of them were built, almost all of them after WW II (like this 1949 model). The trunk lid, the net under the ceiling, the elaborate steering wheel, etc. were aftermarket accessories and not factory options.

Many many thanks Mr Jay Leno to say so - I mean "French designers of a car think some different lalala" something so sounding cool like this... Indeed I am a French engineer (car architect) working at this or this car builder's so you make me simply proud ;) . Well, it's mostly emotioning me now because I know this world of French "some-I-don't-know-why-things" is gona disapear. In fact, since last year both Renault and Peugeot decided to save money by giving their design, draft, engineering, calculation, checks etc. work to Indian "colleagues" (working in India). Although some weeks ago I was asked to go in Calcuta and teach those underpayed people steeling my job, I finally sat in front of my CAD soft and decided to keep engineering and inventing here (in Normandy and - yes - Paris). You are "somewhere involved" in this decision so I thank you, many many, once more :D

I had a 4cyl Normale for a few years. I fully agree, it is just a nice car to drive. I never felt the four cylinder was underpowered for the UK, but I never dared to take it on the motorway as its top speed was just not high enough to be safe. The mustard spoon gear lever is odd looking but easy to use. There are also footwell vents that were very effective at cooling as well.

Citroen always made interesting cars. For a brief period I remember my dad owning a BX from the 80s. It was only 1.4 litre with I believe 72hp, but I remember going 95mph on the motorway quite easily. It was so light. It also had the pneumatic suspension, so very smooth too. There was a lever on the central console for adjusting the ride height.

One of my favourite brands. Such a shame that few Americans experienced these things. Yeah they're an acquired taste but most of the scary things aren't that scary (honest!). Hi ! In regards to the tricolor badge, even as a frenchman, I asked myself if this was an official badge because of the letters RF in the middle of the flags. But I quickly realized it was just regular a regular auto enthusiast’s badge because I know how officials are ! they are round “Cocardes” with blue in the middle, red on the outside and they are to be displayed aon the dasboard right against the winshield, in the They look nice. Nowadays there arre regulations about what is ok and what can not be put on a car and where. I have a small F on my Fusion in the US !...It makes me fell good and it’s besides my “Veteran’s” license plate !!! I had a 404 Peugeot in 63....wish I still had it !

Jaguar is still out of my budget... it definitely was back when I was in Europe in 60- 63... you mentioned bombed out... it was fresh.. and lived in looking at the time... not military targets... mothers and fathers.. and children my first song on the guitar... where have all the flowers gone... still singing the same tune

on the side of the roads are kilometer markers... Algeria was asking for independence.. on each marker... NON... French for no... it's strange what we carry with us... it's not the destination that is important, so much as the path we choose.. I don't speak French... because on the other side of the German border was the Alsace Lorraine.. an area that has been on both sides of this fictional line... and.. they speak German way better than I do.. but my father only knew one word.. dice liters... we drove across France 10 liters at a time... far out man... my mother tried to.. mmmmm... coach.. dice liters
