ABOUT JAY LENO'S GARAGE ON CNBC
Hosted by legendary comedian and “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, the series explores our obsession with all things automotive. From classic cars to supercars and everything in-between, Jay is hitting the road to discover the most exciting, weird and wonderful vehicles ever made and meet the passionate people behind their wheels. Each one-hour themed episode features a mix of stunts, challenges, reviews, and celebrity interviews that showcases the colorful history of the automobile. Whether he’s exploring the story of an iconic brand, road-testing the newest super car, or investigating the latest automotive innovations, there is no wheel Jay won’t get behind to tell the story of our love affair with the car.
About Jay Leno: Acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, much-in-demand corporate speaker, lovable TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist…it’s no wonder that Jay Leno is widely characterized as “the hardest working man in show business.”

You're a nice man, Jay. It brings me heartful memories watching these videos, especially the Traction avant and the 2CV. I Have 5 sisters and brothers, so my dad bought a Traction 11 "familiale", with room for the maximum 9 people allowed to the standard driving license drivers at these times ('60 and '70s) in France. We all have a lot of memories with this car. Also, I happened to drive a Mehari - the buggy version of the 2CV - in a military camp during my time. With it I managed to pass through obsacles that I could not cross with a Jeep, and which even gave some of the tank drivers headaches. Will you some day acquire one of these cars and issue a video ? Greetings from France, and keep up the good work.

My neighbour, in the 80's, was a medic. He could afford a better car but, he loved his 2CV. I remember him entering my neighbourhood soo fast that, one of the wheels, was in the air. Eventualy he got older and bought more expensive cars, like, Audi A6, BMW 5 series and others. Once i talked to him about his 2 CV and his response was... "It's the coolest car I still have on my garage".

Hey what a great little parts runner and it seems to have enough power to get up to speed just fine. California weather is perfect for a full-time convertible, whats not to like. I do believe the suspension is like nothing, I have ever seen in my life. Thanks Jay for showing it to us.

I had a Charleston in this colour, great car.. cheap to run, soft top, easy to fix, and is a great off roader as they were light weight and have great suspension. Touring through Belgium was a gas in one. The Charleston has enough room in the back for a drum kit and then some... it is perhaps the perfect car.

Jay, I love the pandemic versions, it's great to watch you being you while sharing these fun and interesting cars. The shift pattern certainly points toward the French doing things differently. That's an odd four-speed shift pattern. The shifter is odd too but it works beautifully. I understand the shocks are attached to the wheels suspensions by use of rods and cables. My OCD is on fire with that single post steering wheel being off-center. The two-cylinder engine moves that car right along.

Driving my 5 speed 98 Escort to work till it now has 346 ,000 on the clock, On the 130 mile round trip , I am always happy when I make it home and say a quiet thanks. and after driving it so long you learn to sense its mood , some days are better than others , just two days ago I started watching the Ultra gauge i added and it was running a bit hot 204 instead of the usual 197, so I decided to replace the thermostat, of course the first bolt broke off in the head, i figured it was the end of the car, deciding to forge ahead , another bolt broke its head off, and the third came loose ok. carefully prying off the housing the original thermostat was in pieces and could have clogged the passage off at any time on the highway getting me stuck, I very carefully using a new set of visegrips with sharp teeth gripped the stubs of bolt sticking out of the head and 1/8 turn by turn got them both loose, Happiness occurred as i realized I could fix it , i spent a few hours carefully cleaning the parts, put on a new hose too and drove it today 130 plus miles, Feeling like i just got a new car. great fun to bring one back from the brink of the junk yard. and any car that gets you home when running injured is worth a solid attempt to keep it going. Happy the old girl lives.

I might add that I think some of Jay's mice found my other Escort, yes i have two and got a bit woozy and chewed thru the gas tank vent line which gave the computer fits. Maybe if Jay drops by I can show him the 98 Escort section of my driveway . Honestly what would we do without these vids.

*HubNut has joined the chat* The paint job and lights come from the 80's 2CV Charleston series, so only the chassis and engine might be from 1967. Didn't see any mention of Burton 2CV in the comments. Fine cars too...

As I remember reading it, they called it a 2CV (deux cheveau) because the the owner was taxed the same as owning 2 horses. I read an article, in Auto Restorer magazine I believe, about the 5CV (cinq cheveau) that was taxed at the rate of 5 horses. It was all-wheel drive, but it was two engines & two transaxles. Great video Mr Leno.

The original engine was 325cc boasted 12bhp. The last was 602cc with 26bhp. The twin engine version was the Sahara. The Speedo is definitely kph as the United Kingdom is the only country in Europe to use mph, 120kph is 74mph, 100kph is 62mph and 50kph is roughly 30mph.

Renault used the same 2cv system under licence. Full suspension explanation link below. Part 4 time 6:02 kgglobal.info/port/PLB7F836CAC69BBC0F.html Also consider this. The 2cv and DS19 influenced the Original 1959 Mini. Proof in the link above as Alex Moulton and his team assessed a 2cv van and Alec Issigonis had the use of a 1957 DS19.

My favorite undercoat is to take it every month to a self serve car wash and spray wax the underside with the pressure wand on the wax setting, or in the North, automatic car washes have "corrosion inhibiting undercarriage rinse" which I sometimes do instead where available, to get different angles, though I think the spray wax actually lasts longer than the stuff made for undersides. If it has silicone or that new ceramic, it should even protect mufflers from rust!

I don't think it counts as recycling if you put it in a collection. It's only recycling if it goes back to serving necessities such as if you loan it to a minimum wage commuter so she can get out to affordable apartments past San Bernadino. Then one weekend a month she can bring it in to be maintained and occasionally cleaned up and shown, which is pretty much all you do with them anyway.
